MONTREAL, QUE -- For a fifth consecutive season, soccer fans will be able to follow the Montreal Impact’s activities on the Réseau des Sports (RDS), as six regular-season games will be broadcast live on the French-language network in 2006.

“Once again, we are pleased to count on RDS and their support,” said Montreal Impact President Joey Saputo. “RDS is an important media partner that will allow soccer fans to follow the team and to see our players in action throughout the season.”

“We are pleased to renew our partnership with the Impact for the broadcast of these games and to play our part in the development of soccer in Quebec,” said RDS President Gerry Frappier. “And in addition to Impact games, soccer fans will have a full plate from June 9 to July 9 with the presentation of all 64 World Cup games.”

The first Impact broadcast on RDS will be on Wednesday June 28, at 7:30 pm, when Montreal’s greatest rivals, the Rochester Raging Rhinos, will be the visitors at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex.

Two other Impact games will be broadcast in July — Friday, July 7, when the Vancouver Whitecaps and former Impact head coach Bob Lilley will be in town, and Wednesday, July 26, against the USL reigning champions, the Seattle Sounders.

Three more RDS broadcasts will follow in August: Wednesday, August 9 against Rochester, Wednesday, August 16 against the Charleston Battery, and Friday, August 25, against the Virginia Beach Mariners.

For the fourth consecutive year, soccer fans will be able to follow the Montreal Impact’s activities on English-language radio, as 21 games over the 2006 season will be broadcast on CJAD 800 — seven more than last year.

It is the second year of a three-year agreement between the Montreal organization and CJAD.

“We are very happy to give our fans a chance to follow almost all of next season’s games on English radio,” said Montreal Impact President Joey Saputo. “And it is very gratifying to see our partnership with CJAD, a professional sports reference in Montreal and the province of Quebec, continue to expand.”

CJAD will broadcast seven road games, including the season opener in Miami on April 23.

“The Montreal Impact are playing before a continually increasing number of capacity crowds and CJAD 800 is very proud to bring the team's exciting action and success to a wider audience,” said VP-Standard Radio Inc. & G.M. of Montreal's NewsTalk Leader CJAD 800, Rob Braide. “With our expanded coverage for 2006 to an unprecedented number of Impact games, Montreal sports fans know they can rely on CJAD for the score and the passion of their favourite sport, from Impact soccer to Alouettes football and of course Montreal Canadiens' hockey.”

Again this year, the voice of the Montreal Impact on CJAD will be Rob Martier. He will be joined by Impact alumnus Grant Needham for game analysis.

CJAD will also broadcast the May 13 and May 14 games in Charleston, against the Battery, and in Virginia Beach, against the Mariners. The package also includes the Impact’s 13th home opener, Sunday, May 21 at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex, against the Minnesota Thunder. CJAD will also be on hand for the game to be played August 27 in Sherbrooke against the Virginia Beach Mariners.

Furthermore, the four meetings against Montreal’s biggest rivals, the Rochester Raging Rhinos, will all be broadcast. The match-ups consist in two home-and-away series, June 24 and 28, as well as August 9 and 11.

For the first time in the history of Montreal professional sports, a team has given the exclusive rights to broadcasting its games in French to a satellite radio station.

Starting this year, soccer fans will be able to follow the Montreal Impact’s activities on XM Radio, as 21 games over the 2006 season will be broadcast on Sport Plus XM-172. A two-year agreement has been reached between the Montreal organization and the satellite station.

“We are very enthusiastic about this agreement because this is a great way to showcase the team and soccer in North America, said John Di Terlizzi, the Impact’s Vice-President Sales, Marketing and Operations. This is a rapidly growing media and, we think, an excellent partnership, which reflects the growing popularity of our team. We have full confidence in the Sport Plus XM-172 management team, which already has a vast experience in terms of covering sports in Montreal. The Impact has always been innovative in its way of doing things and this is another example of that. Already, we have received positive feedback from our partners.”

XM Radio will broadcast seven road games, including the season opener in Miami on April 23. The station will also be broadcasting 16 weekly shows featuring the Impact.

“We are happy to see the confidence the Impact has shown in our station, which has been on the air for only a few months,” said Sport Plus XM-172 Director Michel Tremblay. “This is a historic moment for Sport Plus XM-172. XM is the radio of the future and this partnership with a professional team that is growing at a phenomenal rate just naturally fell into place.”

XM will also broadcast the May 13 and May 14 games in Charleston, against the Battery, and in Virginia Beach against the Mariners. The package also includes the Impact’s 13th home opener, Sunday, May 21 at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex, against the Minnesota Thunder. XM Radio will also be on hand for the game to be played August 27 in Sherbrooke against the Virginia Beach Mariners.

Furthermore, the four meetings against Montreal’s biggest rivals, the Rochester Raging Rhinos, will all be broadcast. The match-ups consist in two home-and-away series, June 24 and 28, as well as August 9 and 11.

Note also that the games broadcasted on XM Radio will be available on the Impact web site.

Sport Plus is the only French-language radio in North America dedicated only to sport. XM Radio Satellite has a 10-year deal for the broadcast of National Hockey League games – it also broadcasts Montreal Canadiens games -, in addition to being the official radio of Major League Baseball and the PGA.
