HAMILTON, BERMUDA -- Bermuda Hogges FC was officially launched Thursday evening as the first Bermuda professional football club. It has been an historic week for Bermuda football with an unprecedented $15 million pledge (over 5 years) to the BFA from the Bermuda Government, and Thursday night the USL team was launched at a reception held at Fresco’s in Chancery Lane, Hamilton.
The Bermuda Hogges will play in the USL Second Division, starting with a home game at the National Stadium on Friday, April 20. The New Hampshire Phantoms will be the Hogges’ first opponents.
The league regular season goes to mid-August and the playoffs will be completed within the same month. There is no clash with the current Bermuda domestic league which runs from September to mid-April. The majority of Hogges players will be able to continue playing for their domestic teams.
There will be three full-time "franchise" players who will be available to host clinics and coach at club youth teams and at schools.
At the team launch reception, the owners presented the new logo and samples of the uniforms. The colours of red, green and white were taken from the Bermuda crest which is featured on the Bermuda National Flag.
The owners of Bermuda Hogges F.C. are Shaun Goater, Kyle Lightbourne and Paul Scope who are motivated by their love of football and Bermuda.
The players will all be Bermudians who qualify to play for the Bermuda National team and the roster will be finalised by the end of March, with training commencing at the beginning of March.
Front office staff are also being assembled and will include coaches, an equipment manager, medical personnel, physiotherapist, nutritionist, transport and game day operations.
