The possible sites and venues for the 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final have been announced as four teams prepare for the semifinal matches that will take place Tuesday, Aug. 12. Once again, the U.S. Open Cup final will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel.

The Charleston Battery became the first USL team to reach the US Open Cup semifinals for a third time since MLS began play, and the Seattle Sounders returned to the final four for a second straight year by knocking off MLS opposition. The pair will meet in the Semifinals, ensuring a USL side in the final for the first time since Rochester won in 1999. USL-2 Crystal Palace Baltimore was knocked out in penalties.

U.S. Soccer announced the possible semifinal scenarios for the 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The semifinal round will be played on August 12, with the winners of the quarterfinal round to be determined on July 8. Should Charleston or Seattle advance to the Semifinals, they would host in the next round.

For the second straight year the Charleston Battery eliminated the defending MLS Cup champion Houston Dynamo in the Third Round of the US Open Cup, this time holding on with nine men in overtime tied 1-1 to advance in penalties 4-3. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace Baltimore became the third USL-2 team to down MLS opposition in two years, blanking the New York Red Bulls 2-0. Seattle capped the night by defeating Chivas USA for the second straight year in the Third Round.

USL-2 Cleveland knocks off Minnesota 2-0 in overtime
The Cleveland City Stars are the lone USL Second Division club to down a USL First Division side on the night to move onto the Third Round of the US Open Cup with a 2-0 overtime victory against Minnesota. Charleston edged Charlotte 3-2, Carolina nipped Real Maryland 1-0 and Rochester blanked Pittsburgh 3-0. Penalties played a pivotal role on the night.

USL-1 Rochester and Seattle survived contests that went into overtime, Carolina slipped by Brooklyn 1-0 and Atlanta needed penalties to advance in Austin. The USL-1 Portland Timbers were the lone professional USL side to be upset on the night, falling 3-2 in the final minute to a Hollywood United side that featured several former MLS and USL-1 veterans.

USL teams will host 14 of 16 First Round matches
US Soccer has announced the first round pairings for the 2008 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The first round features 32 teams from USL-1, USL-2, PDL and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) ranks. The first round will be played on Tuesday, June 10, with the winners facing off in the second round on June 24.

‘Tournament Tuesdays’ continues with Canadian Championship
The Second Round of the US Open Cup is all set for June 24 with the exception of one team that is yet to be determined due to a postponed First Round affair. In the week off from the US Open Cup, next Tuesday, June 17 will feature a Nutrilite Canadian Championship match between Vancouver and Montreal.
