Charleston advances to US Open Cup Second Round
The Charleston Battery opened the First Round of Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play Tuesday night knocking off amateur side Atlanta F.C. 2-0 at Blackbaud Stadium. Randi Patterson and Tsuyoshi Yoshitake notched first half goals in the scrappy match to earn the Battery a place in the second round versus Miami F.C. Blues in Miami next Tuesday.

City Islanders move onto US Open Cup Second Round
The Harrisburg City Islanders defeated the Reading Rage of the Premier Development League 4-1 in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night at Skyline Sports Complex. Despite a storm earlier in the day, the game was played as scheduled, although the slippery field conditions from the rain were a factor in the fast-paced, physical game.

The Rhinos returned to action Tuesday night at Marina Auto Stadium as they hosted the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of USL-2 in a U.S. Open Cup First Round game. They would escape by means of penalty kicks after coming back from a goal down in regulation to tie the game and force overtime. The score ended 1-1 in regulation and 4-2 in penalties.

Lusitano Stadium hosted the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup’s first round match-up between the Western Mass Pioneers and the visiting Emigrantes Das Ilhas out of Brockton, MA. The Pioneers showed no signs of fatigue in their third game in just five days although it took 120 minutes of action-packed soccer on slippery field conditions to decide the victor in the 3-2 thriller in favor of the hosts.

In front of the most loyal of fans, the Monarchs played through two days of rain, thunder and lightning to get a 1-0 win over the Aegean Hawks. The game was a heated contest that saw two red cards issued to the visiting side as Real Maryland FC held tightly to an early goal by Ryan Cordeiro.
