For the first time in the franchise’s 20 seasons, the Menace takes center stage in a Major League Soccer venue. A nail-biting, 1-0, upset of Minnesota United FC on Tuesday night set the scene for one of the most anticipated matches in Menace history.

The Richmond Kickers claimed a 4-1 win against Icon FC in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night, setting up a third-round contest where they will face the club’s MLS affiliate D.C. United on Tuesday, May 28. After conceding a ninth-minute Argjent Duka goal, the Kickers rallied behind a Joseph Ngwenya penalty kick and a pair of Stanley Nyazamba tallies to oust their USASA opponent from the tournament.

FC Tucson had done everything it could to beat San Antonio in the second round of the U.S. Open Cup. But as the players waited for San Antonio’s Kevin Harmes to take their final penalty kick, all the club could do was rely on their opposition to find out their fate. Harmes sent his penalty kick into the night sky and FC Tucson moved on to the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after a 2-2 draw in regulation and a 4-3 win in penalty kicks.

Behind one goal in either half, Orlando City SC advanced past the PDL’s Ocala Stampede 2-1 on Tuesday night in the second round of the 100th edition of Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Forest High School. Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber announced today that a partnership of global sports powers, Manchester City Football Club and the New York Yankees, has acquired the League’s 20th expansion club. The new team will be named New York City Football Club (NYCFC) and expects to begin play in 2015.
